A community for families of children with hearing loss

Hearing loss is low incidence yet children with hearing loss exist all over the US. Many times, children with hearing loss are the only one in their school creating isolation.

An online community where parents and children with hearing loss can connect, share stories, and experience belonging.

"Do you know any other children with hearing loss that my child can meet?” Hearing Milestones Fam was created by parents for parents by Dr. Jen Richardson. Dr.Jen is a licensed audiologist who gets asked this question weekly. She created Hearing Milestones Fam because it’s important for children to feel accepted and know there are other children like them. When children are the only ones in their school experiencing hearing loss, it can create feelings of isolation, loneliness, and dangerous insecurity. This community allows parents to share stories, and if you choose to -connect with other families of similar interests and hobbies.  We are a parent only community, but believe in helping parents decide if their child would benefit from connecting with children who are experiencing the same thing for understanding and supportive friendships. Whether your children discuss their hearing loss or the latest social media craze, they’ll no longer feel like the only one. 

It’s been reported that children with hearing loss described more sincere and rewarding relationships with other children with hearing loss, in comparison to their relationships with hearing children.

At HMF, we’re inspired by the children with hearing loss inside our homes and classrooms. It’s why we created this community which provides families with an avenue to connect with other parents. Wondering if families near you are on the hearing journey? Our community shows you families nearby! Even if you know plenty of children with hearing loss, your child may be in a different age group. Our (your) community can help you locate a peer closer in age if you so choose. You are in the driver seat. Want to connect with other families sharing your experiences, questions, and discoveries? All our stories are unique. Whether you’re new to this journey, or have lived through the trials and triumphs of raising a child with hearing loss, we created this app for you. Our job is to help your family connect with other similar families experiencing some form of hearing loss. Created differently. HMF fosters a relaxing space for parents to ask questions, share perspective, and find humor in the everyday of raising a child with hearing loss. This community also offers ways to meet other families of children with hearing loss near and far. We  understand that just because your child has a hearing loss does not mean they will click with every child who wears a hearing aid or cochlear implant. That would be like saying all kids with ponytails like to play together! Instead, HMF connects you with other families of similar interests, hobbies, parenting styles, and more.

No child should feel isolated. Our mission: Make sure every family with a child who experiences hearing loss knows at least one other family like theirs. Because we believe in community, we’ve created a way to be a part of something bigger. Our mission is to help parents connect with parents of children experiencing some form of hearing loss who share similar interests, ages and experiences. For safety and privacy reasons, this is a parent-only website. We believe in building strong, supportive communities.

 Is your child the only one with hearing loss in their school? Every child needs someone their own age who understands their experience. Because hearing loss is low incidence, many children don’t know anyone who shares their experience in their local area. This community is parents to parents, you decide if your children would benefit from connecting. Some examples of connection are taking it offline when possible, connecting over social media, video chatting, or talking on the phone. As parent, you are in the driver’s seat. This community allows parents to connect their children for potentially lifelong friendships.

Our lives are busy. We are on the go from the time we wake-up til we get home. Busy with our children's school events, doctor appointments, sports, as well as our daily job. This community can go anywhere by downloading the app.
